The Ubiquitous They
A few uncomfortable truths.
Dear Oblivious,
They bid us welcome, then they demand we leave.
They offer us opportunities, but they give us no tools.
They tell us to believe in God, but they ignore what they say are his teachings.
They propose peace for all while they declare war.
They insist we follow the law, then they disregard the rules they don’t like.
They say all men and women are created equal, then they enslave us in poverty and inequality.
They ask for our input but ignore our suggestions.
They love nature’s beauty, then they pave it over with tar.
They create cures for the sick, but they refuse to administer them without payment.
They insist we must be born, but they ignore our pleas for love and compassion once we arrive.
Who is the Ubiquitous They? The answer is simple. Look in the mirror.
Regards,

I have to agree with Pernoste. You don't call yourself a poet and I understand that, but this is a very thought-provoking and stirring piece of poetry with lines that demand a slow and considered look. Thank you for submitting this forward for the anthology I'm working on. Will be posting an update soon. But, this is great! Glad you shared it!
Very profound, Mark. You may not call yourself a poet, but I'd say this is a nicely crafted and deep poem. Nice job! Pernoste
I love this poem. We all creat the norms together. So we are the ones that imprison ourselves. Very inspiring.
