I cried because

my empathy enveloped his pain

I felt it as though it were mine

I couldn't look away

I uttered my raw honesty

so he'd know he wasn't alone

You touched my back

You feigned comfort

All while you plucked my disclosure

to warp its meaning

to embrace the stigma

and push me out

You don't know kindness

How do you put on a mask of compassion

and allow such cruelty

to have life inside of you?
