The Time Key
Wonderland Challenge Day 5
You had the key to my heart but I changed the locks after you broke the keys
You still have a key that belongs to me
Something that I seem to keep giving to you
That is the key to my time
My time is connected to the locks on my heart
It gets weaker everytime you unlock my time
Thoughts of you starts to fill up my mind
Then again I start wishing you were mine
But we are just friends
And friends spend some time together
Not enough to satisfy the longing
Feel like a tease
Is it best to take the time key
And no longer give you my time
Like we don't exist in each other world
No! Here keep the key
My imagination will still hold me
Or hunt me
Probably hurt me eventually

I love how this poem tugs back and forth and back and forth between this desire to give and this desire to keep amongst this ache that is ever present - wanting to give love, wanting to receive love - but bruised with unrequited sentiment.
Very nice, Ellie. Full of deep emotions. I can especially relate to these lines: "But we are just friends And friends spend some time together Not enough to satisfy the longing Feel like a tease." I have never mastered the art of being friends after a relationship. I am trying again this time, but I still don't think it works for all the reasons you have mentioned.
Captivating poem and well written.
“You had the key to my heart but I changed the locks “ I loved that line. All of it, actually.
