The Thief of Life
Despair, you've taken enough from me... -but my life I cannot let you have.
I can't breathe...
under the the entirety of your weight standing on my chest‐
you've forced all the air from my lungs,
and tears from my eyes.
Are you proud?...
you've successfully turned life into a curse in disguise‐
and you've stolen my belief that this heartbeat is a gift.
I can't think...
not with the weight you place in every breath,
the torment you create under the sun,
or the horrors you bring to my nights.
Are you proud?...
of this empty vessel you created,
this broken heart you've tainted?
I can't believe...
this hell you bring and and death you leave in your footsteps‐
you're the author behind all the Dangerous Wishes that roll off my tongue,
the artist behind the nightmares that pace through this place behind my eyes.
Are you proud?...
of this cursed work you vow to complete,
the hearts, minds and souls you're still breaking?...
the eyes you've closed with your own hands,
and the lives you've ended with your disgusting lies?
Are you proud?
Well, I sure as hell hope not‐
of all things I've let walk over me
I won't be adding you to that list, and...
that's a promise I'll keep even if I don't find relief.

About the Creator
Josh Morgan
Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
