Your hypnotic spell is something kinda wicked
How do you do it?
How do you pull so many of us in?
Abandon us
Leaving us immersed in dark and lonely madness
overtaking our spirts, our minds
Identities transformed
Our Souls
Sold
We no longer know
Who we are
Where we belong
You create a world where we only need you
Or be around others who choose you, too
We become enslaved ghouls
Blindly circling your every move
Unrelinquished in our hunger for the false joy you help us encounter
So gluttonous in our greed with the need
to feel as though we are nothing in your absence
And even in your presence
We are no fun
People will miss me without you,
Has begun to invade our new thoughts
Clarity is no more
Rationality is no more
And anger grows. Deeper.
Just as quickly as you’ve inoculated our core with fabricated jubilation
You’ve repossessed it...
at the drop of a dime
But…we can’t cry
we are numb
You have smashed our store windows and looted
Us,
In the midst of our internal war
Nothing left to die for
but just you…

I loved how you built the tension throughout the piece, and the subtlety with which the thief’s presence is felt without explicitly being revealed. It adds a layer of mystery, making the reader reflect on what truly has been taken and what can never be returned.
