The Bedridden Test: A Litmus Test for Love

If you want to know whether you truly love someone, imagine them old and bedridden. Would you be willing to care for them? If the thought of their aged and ailing self depresses you, then they may not be the person you're meant to spend your life with.

Loving someone healthy is easy. Loving someone poor is a choice. Loving someone old and sick is destiny. When health abandons the person you love, can you still love them?

It may be decades from now, but you can know today if they are worth it. Even if you think you could still love them then, it might not be enough. When you are old and sick in bed, would you be willing to let them care for you?

If their presence brings you comfort, then they are likely the ones you seek.

If you only hope they'll be a friend who visits you when you're ill, rather than someone who'd carry you to the toilet at night, then perhaps they aren't the person you're looking for.

The person you’ll miss in your weakest moments, and the person you’ll pity in theirs, is the one you’ll walk hand in hand with into the future.
