The Symphony of Shattered Strings: A Ballad of Love’s Discordant Note:

When Trust Became the Silent Instrument in a Duet of Deceit:

By Sanchita ChatterjeePublished 9 months ago 1 min read

Verse 1: Overture of Ardor

We waltzed in a sonnet of whispers and wings,

Your laughter, a melody spun from moonlit springs.

Our hands composed sonatas on skin’s parchment thin,

A harmony sworn—no shadow could creep in.

Verse 2: Crescendo of Closeness

Your lips traced nocturnes on the curve of my throat,

A cello’s deep hum to my violin’s trembling note.

We vowed to duel time, two souls interknit,

But strings fray in silence where deceit dares to sit.

Verse 3: The Minor Key Revealed

One night, the metronome faltered—a beat out of sync.

A ledger of lies where your fingerprints ink.

A name not my own, curled in your desk’s dim light,

A crescendo of chaos rupturing the night.

Verse 4: Fortissimo of Fracture

You played me a fugue with a stranger’s refrain,

A discordant chord drenched in acid rain.

The rosin on your bow? Ash from bridges burned.

The encore I craved? A lesson unlearned.

Verse 5: Cadence of the Broken

Now silence sits sovereign where our symphony bled,

A requiem hummed for the vows left unsaid.

The cello case gathers dust, strings rusted with “why,”

While my violin weeps a diminished reply.

Verse 6: Coda of the Unflinching

But hear this, maestro of counterfeit tune:

Even shattered glass mirrors the phase of the moon.

I’ll restring my heart with the steel of the scorned—

For the finest ballads are battlefields adorned.

Author’s Note (Analysis & Insight):

This poem uses musical metaphor to dissect betrayal’s anatomy—the dissonance between love’s promises and deception’s blade. The violin and cello symbolize vulnerability (high, trembling notes) and deceit (deep, resonant lies). The “ledger of lies” nods to betrayal’s calculated nature, while the “ash from bridges burned” reflects irreversible damage. The final stanza shifts from victimhood to resilience: shattered glass still reflects light, just as fractured love can forge strength. Betrayal, though brutal, often composes the rawest ballads of human tenacity.
