The Sweet Song of Winter

The season offers a ditty at the first frost.

In bleeding cold, the harsh words

Of the singing winter joy

Is cast upon some birds.

This is the sound of the season being coy.

It plays with the senses.

It appears as a bully.

As the body contracts along cold fences,

One can understand winter fully.

No animation among the houses.

Children cling close.

No love restricted by spouses,

There is time for the season’s heavy dose.

As we glean the swirling flakes,

We must remember the time.

Of all the beauty nature makes,

The cold is as refreshing as lemon and lime.

Winter coming makes for excellent days.

This is an elegant song sung in many ways.
