The Subtle Affair

Day and Night

By Dan R FowlerPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

The Subtle Affair

T’was ever so slightly the morning nudged the night,

Pushing it aside as it introduced the daylight.

A common courtesy, a courtship that’s remained,

From bygone times, their undying love proclaimed.

Be gone with you each other oft would say,

As the cycle repeated from nighttime until day.

But under their breath, each did covet the other,

The daylight the darkness for it’s cloak it did cover.

As for the darkness with its enchantments did blush,

For in the shadows, it spoke of its crush.

“I want to be like you,” it echoed repeatedly,

“And I like you,” daylight announced candidly.

But, alas, neither night nor day could touch the other,

Darkness and daylight confined within nature’s order.

“I’ve longed to be with you,” regaled night’s song,

“And I with you,” replied daylight equally as strong.

I watched and listened to the never-ending chants,

But soon realized that the night would soon collapse.

From impenetrable darkness to the brilliance of morn,

The two lovers sacrificed each other’s desires without scorn.
