Strong Black Woman
Society's "compliment" to us
And one of our many burdens.
We're told we must be strong.
From the time we're conceived
To the time we're laid to rest.
Expected to comfort,
Care,
And save everyone.
And through it all,
We must remain strong
And never break.
But we do break
Like everyone else.
Yet no one comes to our aid.
Somehow
We must save everyone
Including ourselves.
They expect us to have the strength
Of a thousand men
And then some.
They immediately turn to us
To be the heroes
When shit goes south.
But, why?
Why should we
Save everyone?
Who's gonna save us
When the going gets tough?
Not a damn soul.

I felt the anger in this, JM and quite rightly.
Strong, real, and full of truth—this one hits deep! A sharp nudge to remind the world: even heroes need saving sometimes. Nailed it!
