The streetlight hums, splitting the light

Criminal versatility hides from the spotlight

The ice cracks, melts and freezes over tonight

Ruffled birds peck one last snack before taking flight

A shadow drifts silence, avoiding sight

The wind's laughter low, drifting might

The pavement recalls each echo of tonight

While time folds itself, erasing the fright

The branches sway restless, their bones held tight

Windows reflect crooks grinning in delight

A stray wolf moves slowly, surrendering the fight

And dawn waits in silence, refusing what's right

The sky bleeds its rays, dissolving the night

The street fades to whispers, retreating from sight

The ice holds its secrets in shimmering white

And morning arrives, their secrets come to light
