The Storm's Lament

a poem

By Autumn Published 4 months ago 1 min read

The sky weeps silver tears tonight,

Each drop a memory let go,

While thunder mourns what used to be

In voices only sorrow knows.

The wind carries away the warmth

Of summer days now cold and past,

And lightning splits the darkness wide

To show how nothing ever lasts.

Trees bend and break beneath the weight

Of rain that falls like endless grief,

Their branches reaching toward a sky

That offers neither hope nor relief.

The storm will pass, they always do,

But leave behind the broken ground—

Puddles reflecting empty space

Where joy once lived, but can't be found.

And in the morning, when it's done,

The world will glisten, washed and clean,

But something precious will be gone,

Lost to the places in between.
