The Stars and Stripes Through Storms of Time Have Flown

A Villanelle

The American Flag in a Thunderstorm - Created with Ideogram

The stars and stripes through storms of time have flown,

A symbol bold where freedom's echoes call,

In every tear and triumph, strength is shown.

*****

In battles fought its vibrant colors are known,

A banner where the spirits rise and fall,

The stars and stripes through storms of time have flown.

*****

Through darkest nights where hope was overthrown,

It waved in hearts that never would be small,

In every tear and triumph, strength is shown.

*****

Its fabric holds the dreams that we have sown,

A testament to those who stand and stall,

The stars and stripes through storms of time have flown.

*****

When chains were cast, its grace was brightly known,

A beacon for the weary and the tall,

In every tear and triumph, strength is shown.

*****

So let it fly where freedom’s winds have blown,

In every heart where courage dares to call,

The stars and stripes through storms of time have flown,

In every tear and triumph, strength is shown.
