The Spectrum of a Boy

Augie and Mom

You, my son, are a summer sunset

Wrapping us in the warmest of shades

Forever illuminating the world around you

Never worry about the dark hues that surround you

Those colors do not know your heart

Go on and blend those dark hues with

ones of light

Always shining the most vibrant love

To those around you

Kids who do not understand you

Are just kids who live in the monochromatic

They are scared of standing out

Scared of your fearlessness to be different

But you, my son, are the full spectrum

and not just a boy on the Autism Spectrum

To you, a race car should always be red

A sky, the most saturated of blues

What does that grass feel like?

You lay so quietly just grazing a finger or two

I am thankful you have color to comfort you

when I can not

I wish I could hold you the way the reds do

and comfort you like the greens

but I will always protect you from colors you can't see

inspirational
