the spark extinguishing

"roadrunner" ⸘jason alan‽ 8"x8" acrylics on stretched canvas 2025

vibrant and saturated

the colors of a true heart never fade

gradients arrange and repeat

the values lay broken

a square of earth down ten feet

that is now home of the love we agrigcated

lessons we share

because i thought maybe

because i forgot what i went there for

because i was lost too long

because he made a promise

like the carpenter and the walrus

either way i am here to eat

the life of your party

waiting for the heart to stain and break

skipping the cost of liberties

on credit and coming due

winning neutral for not seeing

the secret life of my dreams

bringing new heat to a spark extinguishing

but not mine

when he found me, i was life on a plate

appreciated on the surface

from boxes

wrapped in paper

hanging from trees

too late to do more than wait

for the rush

and the stories to make sense

i won't hide from love anymore that i crave

and let my fear guide my voice

because i wasn't born to be silenced

i was born to always rage on

for everybody who forgot that anyone can

i know smoke comes from somewhere

all the space between the pits

and the slices of blue sky
