The Song That Said Everything
This is How I Remember It
It was my birthday.
Sunlight spilled through the trees—
touching my shoulders,
my soul,
capturing the essence
of a perfect moment
in the making.
And as we walked,
there came a pause
when it just seemed right.
He cradled his guitar—
and started playing.
A song without words.
The hum of the strings
folded into the air,
into the river,
into me.
I don’t remember the exact tune.
I don’t need to.
I remember how it made me feel—
genuinely happy,
whole
in that luminous moment.
As I held Princess in my arms,
her fur brushing my hands,
I felt it even more complete—
he had included her, knowing
exactly how to make me happiest.
And she seemed to know, too,
that this was a memory
to be treasured.
And him—my best friend—
walking beside me,
playing this song just for me.
The kind of love that says:
I see you. I care.
I want you to feel this joy.
The moment held us—
me, her, him,
the river, the trees,
everything bending
toward that perfect light.
I smiled,
thinking: this is exactly how it should be.
Full, quiet, alive.
Even now,
I return
to the happiness of that moment—
a perfect memory;
a perfect gift.
