The Social Battery Dilemma
Finding Balance in a Performance-Driven World
In today's society, it often feels like everyone must constantly express themselves to achieve their goals. Whether it's advancing in one's career, securing basic needs, or simply seeking permission, there's an unspoken expectation to be vocal and visible. It's as if the world has collectively decided to embrace extroversion, leaving those of us who prefer quieter existence feeling drained and out of place. Here's a brief poem expressing my sentiments.
..
In a world of constant chatter,
Where voices rise to matter,
We're pushed to be extroverts,
In a dance of social concerts.
Climb the ladder, make your mark,
Speak up loud, don't stay in the dark.
But oh, the weariness it brings,
This endless performance of things.
Smart and vocal, looking fine,
Meeting criteria, toeing the line.
Overwhelmed by expectations,
Even rest feels like obligations.
Why can't I just stay still?
Let life flow, against society's will?
Must every moment be for growth?
Can't I just be, I quietly oath?
Yet wisdom whispers, soft and clear,
It's okay to not fit here.
To just exist, to sometimes fall,
To not answer every call.
The norms may promise success,
But at what cost, this constant stress?
In the end, it's our life to lead,
Our own path we must heed.
So as new days begin to dawn,
I'll listen to my inner song.
Step back from the ceaseless race,
Find my own authentic pace.
A work in progress, day by day,
Nourishing mind and body's way.
In this world of endless motion,
I'll find my peaceful ocean.
For in the quiet, in the calm,
Lies a different kind of balm.
Not in doing, but in being,
Lies the key to truly seeing.
