The Snapper and My Confidence
Still Lurking
Do you know? I don't think of you,
In the moments I remember you,
So much as a person anymore. You've
Transformed. Not from a dragonfly nymph,
Readily-pincered, only to become beautiful
As an adult. Winged, still dangerously predatorial, but now
Convincing of a more palatable, presentable, flitting image.
This is not you. You are an alligator snapping turtle
In the water, sinking under new memories but expectantly open-mouthed,
Offering your tongue-turned-worm to catch my attention and my
Nascent freedom from you in your jaws again.
