The Sky Might Be Falling

A poem about an uncertain future broadcasted by someone not quite cut out for public service announcements.

By Madison "Maddy" NewtonPublished about 10 hours ago 1 min read

Attention: The sky might be falling.

Please remain indoors.

Take shelter underground, if possible,

and lock all windows and doors.

At 6 a.m., eastern standard time,

the sky appeared ablaze.

The Sun, a blinding prize hidden away

at the center of a billowy, hellish maze.

Pardon, that was intense,

I got a little carried away...

But seriously, in all fairness,

I've heard of "crack of dawn," but not "earth-shattering fray."

Back to the announcement,

please do not panic.

I am a trained professional,

my words are even-tempered, not manic.

Despite my shock, extreme concern and unease

at seeing these crimson heavens ignite before me,

I swear I am okay.

I think. I hope. I plea.

Actually, I'm afraid I have to go, I just remembered,

I left something baking in the shower at school,

for now, board up your windows, dig deep, say a prayer,

that's what I'll be doing, till next time, stay cool!
