The Skuggasvefn Man

An Eerie Lullaby Poetry

There was a featureless, dark man lingering by the door.

He never knocked, never knocked.

He only shows himself at night,

only phasing in when it was twelve o’ clock, twelve o’ clock.

When the kids' eyes slipped open, he was there, sitting in the corner chair.

No one knows if he was watching or looking away.

The room always turned warm,

the night chills fade.

The man looked darker than the room,

but had an aura of gold all around him in sight.

It was hard to see what he wore or his face,

yet he was a nightlight.

Sometimes, the kids woke up from nightmares.

Seeking comfort, they would ‘talk’ to him.

When their parents came,

they wondered why they couldn’t see him.

As the kids grew older and older,

they saw him less and less.

He was gone once they were adults.

Like a missing piece of a heart, they became depressed.

They became mothers and fathers.

At night, they heard their children talking out of the blue.

Once they walked into the room,

they saw the man too.

The parents and children saw a featureless, dark man lingering by the door.

He never knocked, never knocked.

He only shows himself at night,

only phasing in when it was twelve o’ clock, twelve o’ clock.
