The Simple Word Goodbye

The daily struggle is now over

From the battle I now silently retreat,

The truth behind all our troubles

Has now been revealed complete.

I have tried in so many ways

To help you where you need,

But you’ve built a wall so high

I fear you’ll never break free.

So I can’t let my heart get broken

I refuse to let you make me cry,

Nor allow you to shatter my dreams

So please let me say goodbye.

It’s not my place to try to change you

And that’s why it’s time for me to go,

I can’t watch you waste your life

That’ll hurt more than you know.

***

So forgive me but I’m leaving

I won’t give you any reason why,

I’ll offer the only explanation

Of the simple word goodbye.
