The Silencing Winter's Whisper
The first snowfall
Darkness envelops us
in the all too early evening,
the clouds' fullness stole the light,
dark and heavy threats.
******************
You will walk your usual paths,
the cold bothers only me.
******************
A tingling visit on my cheek,
the lifted gaze sees it,
Small white flakes
thrown out from the bed of clouds
Like feathers from a duvet.
******************
Descending slowly onto the
too warm earth,
******************
Disappearing invisibly,
A little longer until
the shared effort
has cooled the surface,
forming a white sheen
and the droplet on the last leaf
freezes in transparent beauty
not seen by the hurried.
******************
The crystals stack up
with their jagged edges.
******************
You lick a cooling blade of grass,
Shake the fur with joy,
Anticipation for a race in high piles.
Is it possible?
The hat warms my freezing head.
******************
A glowing layer of white
protects against the wind's bite.
******************
Patches of the field are covered,
Everything slowly evens out.
The moon's light passes
hurried by the clouds' sprinkle,
The mind brightens.
******************
The speed of life
slows down,
forced by the lack of visibility
and the inadequacy of the tools
to withstand nature's course.
******************
The snow falls, and many are surprised.
You love it.
******************
My boots
press down the footprints,
Soon to fall as one with
the erasure of chance.
We find the way,
Walking toward the window's blurry light,
Through the falling flakes.
******************
The surprising first snow
in the winter's white wonder.
******************
A worried glance out the window,
You curl up in your warm basket,
Fur cleaned by the snow,
The thickness of the snow layer increases.
Will the world come to a halt?
******************
Tomorrow you will try
to eat the served snow dessert,
Unconcerned by human troubles.

Such a beautiful perspective. I often wonder what it might be like to be removed from human troubles 💜 C
And how did you know that wolves and dogs are my favourite creatures? Marvellous, Henrik!
This was so lovely and wonderful! Loved your poem!
Aww, what a beautiful poem, just a man with his dog taking a snow walk.
