The See Fairing Lantern
As Submitted To The Lantern Light Challenge

An evening suited for a diplomatic knight
Chilly, filled with shunning fright
Months ago, festive peace, spruced the green lawn
Dew filled the landscape every dawn
Recently, winter clouds invade,
Nature’s temperatures trade
Wind howled,
An eerie sound, very loud
Nautical Nida stands and waits
Guarding against, cold anger, and hate
Caring lantern is seen
By both friends and fiends
Fueling light
Guiding bright
“Who goes there?”
Asked Nida honestly scared
“A storm
Wickedly born
Or picture postcard
Inspiring holiday making poetic bard
Inspiring seasonal greetings
Warming peaceful meetings”
Smiling a response
Telling Nida, what she wants
“I am Nadine from the other side
Your reflective twin who cannot be denied”
Taking things in stride
Nida, thought quickly, if she lied
“We are revealed
My lantern brokering the dialogue deal
I see your eyes
And realize there is not a disguise
Come into my space
We can discuss our case
And confront the challenges we face”
Staring at the flame
Nothing to complain
Nadine realized this was not a game
“We must work together
Survive this weather”
Realizing that was true
Both Nida and Nadine were no longer turning blue
Instead, stronger they got
Lantern turned them hot
Allowing them to see
Nida and Nadine were a, ‘we’
Contributing time
Now one mind
Staying kind
Not acting blind
Lantern used to find
“Soon the gardens will be here
And then there will be cheer”
The two agreed
Knowing, they perform good deeds
As the lantern provided power
Communicating imitating a blooming flower
Buzz many bees
Delivering newsworthy feed
Bringing socializing spring back
Initiating a pollenating attack
Brewing life’s honey
Sweet and sunny
Lanterns dispense the dark
Illuminating healthy talks in the park
Where it is a must
To be united in trust
Resulting in Nida and Nadine as one
Champions who won

This is such a creative and uplifting piece, it feels like a modern fable wrapped in rhyme.
