“The name of the author is the first to go followed obediently by the title, the plot, the heartbreaking conclusion, the entire novel, which suddenly becomes one you have never read, never even heard of...” // Forgetfulness // BILLY COLLINS

Forgetfulness is a poem that has always stuck with me. I read it my senior year of high school, 2017. I forgot about it. Ironic

2020 is the first time I got to vote. What a year to first anything. The first time is the worst? I’m not a poet. I prefer illustration. More than anything, I just want people to be happy. I want everyone to move the hell on from last year. I want everyone to be strong for one another. I want everyone to focus on loving themselves.

This isn’t just about me though. You have wants too. You’re important too. 2020 was full of shit. 2021 is a new chapter I’ve personally dedicated to growth, healing, and learning.

So that poem about a bicycle...

THE FORGOTTEN CYCLE

I don’t know if you read these or not, but it’s worth a shot.

Even if it’s only a precoded robot.

What do we do now? We’ve lost control.

We as in the power, they’ve stolen the show.

The power is the key. It’s gone missing.

The key is balance. Let’s stop bitching.

We the people. We’ve lost the power.

Every time we check, oh shit.

There goes another hour.

The power of the people.

Is this what America is about?

Not this misguided nuclear clout.

United in ideas, freedom to pursue.

The pursuit of happiness an essential unitary rule.

Individuals we stand with identical tools.

Yet fools we are, forgot our own rule.

Balance is the key it’s hiding behind law.

The lock is order it’s never been hidden at all.

America has ideas, ready to install.

First delete the malware.

It’s why we fall.

Life without risk, how did we become so unaware?

You are the same, another brick in the wall.

Eureka!

The key is right there!

How can we just stare?

Wait a minute how is this fair?

The rule they forgot to teach us was the limitation of time.

Growing up becomes easier as long as you don’t forget.

Here’s to learning what to remember and what to forget in 2021.

p.s. i never learned how to ride a bike
