The Rush

A Memory

By Emma LaurensPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
Photograph of the horizon, viewed from a motorboat on the lake

The rush as we sped forth on water blue

That stood unbroken but for waves and wake

From motor boats; the droplets fell unto

Our skin as we drew circles on the lake.

The sky was overcast; a perfect grey

Because of cotton clouds that filled the sky

And cast an endless shade. The salty spray--

It kissed us as we felt that we could fly.

With wind-blown hair and smiles on every face

We felt the air refresh us with its chill

A summer’s day spent in a perfect place

Where we made memories we remember still.

The wind, the waves, the joy that I felt then

I hope--and cannot wait--to feel again.
