The Rusalka
This was originally written on my All Poetry account as a poem for a contest there
Such beauty rising out those murky waters deep
reaching the bank edge where I wait in anticipation
to gaze upon your beauty it far out ways any senses of mere mortal design.
Yet what I shall never see is that below the water
for you are one of many
a creature so beautiful above water
but below you are lifeless bones
a skeleton structure that is a haunting reminder of darker war times.
But you are so beautiful, how could I so foolishly ignore that?
Surely these murky waters will not consume me
and yet, I'm so lost if your beauty that I've lost all senses to land
you have pulled me closure to the water and I so willingly follow
unaware of this waters magic as it sinks into my flesh
leaving nothing but a skeleton mask beneath the waters mirroring surface.
