Walking thru life one day you'll learn

that the feeling beneath your feet is the bones of the past.

No need for an umbrella beneath those dark clouds

because that darkness catching you is going to last.

It all comes around one day, doesn't buddy,

and someday you'll know there's nowhere to go.

Whether you wanted it to or not, life got kind of muddy

and you'll pay the price for it but the bill comes slow.

You should have focused on more important things

and kept in mind not to lose your true self.

You failed my friend as you hunted the brass ring

and the bill coming due is on the devil's shelf.

What time you have left

to carry that heavy load.

Exhausted, defeated, and carrying it with such heft

as if it were ever going to be an escapable ending.

No pageantry, no pomp, and no circumstance for you

as the devil comes a-knocking.

Just the realization of what your life meant

and the price to pay for all that rocking.

Writing has become more important as I live with cancer. It's a therapy, it's an escape, and it's a way to do something lasting that hopefully leaves an impression.
