The Road Cake

Just a piece.

By Bret CrowPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
Happy Birthday?

I found this piece of Birthday Cake,

on the side of the road.

It looked like someone dropped it,

and happened to explode.

It couldve been an accident,

that slid right off the dish,

or quite perhaps on purpose

after the candle wish.

It had a footprint on it,

that somebody had made.

As if they glanced upon it,

and then became dismayed.

How could this simple Birthday Cake

fallen to its doom?

Did it not bring joy to those

once it had entered the room.

I hear a family singing

that old, traditional chorus.

And yet the one whose party it was

was not that over joyous.

"I'll have my piece, and when i'm done

just throw the rest away!"

The family just obliged

and were utterly dismayed.

How could this Birthday Cake

be so untasty that

it should thrown onto the road

for days or weeks in fact.

And so this cake reminds us all

to take a closer look,

to always be so grateful

for the food we didn't cook.
