The Ride of my Lyfe
How my Chronic Illness Brought Me Love

I ordered a Lyft, I was going to a party at Hollywood and Vine,
My leg was hurting so much, and I couldn't drive, not this time.
You pulled up in a Lyft and a dark car,
Not knowing how important, how special you are.
I sat upfront and looked straight ahead, intent on just being polite,
But the deep soothing tone of your voice made me curious that night.
Our conversation was deep, thoughtful, and struck a chord inside me,
A song began to take form, one that I could feel and touch decidedly.
When we arrived at Hollywood and Vine, I asked if you wanted more,
More conversation, more time, more of me, more than just before,
You said yes immediately, and I felt the chorus of that song in my core.
As you exited the car to open my door, I finally looked at your face,
I usually never look at Lyft drivers as we talk, feeling shy and out of place.
You were so beautiful, I could barely contain my gasp of surprise,
Your gorgeous smile, beautiful hands, and chocolate brown eyes.
You took my hand as I limped out of the car, grabbing my crutch,
My song was at its crescendo, my heart beating so hard it was too much.
We made plans to meet again, in fact we met for coffee three days later,
You wore an orange crush T-shirt and you were incredibly kind to the waiter.
Your kindness, goodness, and your generosity are lyrics in our song,
But the hook is that you love me, even though my body feels wrong.
I will always need you more than you need me in so many ways,
But you make it look effortless, in how you fill our days,
I never knew my life would change with one ride using Lyft.
You are the love of my life, the greatest man I know, and my greatest gift.
