The Riddle's Sanctuary

Embracing Shadows, Unveiling Light

"You once immersed yourself in tales of wonder,

Like a comforting cocoon,

But it was the chill you welcomed,

As you revealed

The motionless bodies of the Enigma's prey,

A tingling sensation as the perfect Luminary

Slipped a glass slipper

Onto your delicate toes,

A match made in perfection.

Yet, as princesses paraded by you in autumn breezes,

You recognized the vast divide between them and you,

Vowing to relinquish trust

In the sorcery of fairy tales.

Nevertheless, those stories dwelled within you,

As deep as venom.

If the ideal Luminary were real,

If they could rescue you,

You yearned for deliverance

From the injustices of existence.

When would they appear?

The answer came with a dismissive shrug,

Present in countless fleeting moments,

The sneer on Stevie Smith's face

As they deemed you a ponderous beast,

Uncle Jeff's unwelcome grasp on your rear

During the Thanksgiving gathering,

The accusatory gaze in your father's eyes

When you confided in him.

Through every boy pretending to be a man

Whom you allowed into your body, your heart,

You realized you lacked

The enchantment that transforms a monster into a hero.

You surrounded yourself

With the girls you had always coveted,

Hoping to partake in their power,

And you loathed yourself,

Further diminishing your essence.

Then, just as you teetered

On the brink of disappearing,

They noticed you,

And deep within,

You knew it was too good to be true,

Yet you surrendered to the allure,

For they were the first

With enough strength to lift you.

Now, within their fortress, you understand

That the ideal Luminary and the Enigma

Are intertwined,

And a blissful ending eludes you

Unless you embrace both aspects of them.

Didn't you long for this?

To be cherished?

Didn't you yearn for their consecration?

Didn't you invite it?

So, proclaim that you can endure such a life,

Declare your love for them,

Express gratitude,

Say anything but the truth,

What if you cannot reciprocate their love?"
