The Quiet Art

a song with no words

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She waits, holding her breath, so as not to utter her thoughts
In sounds that her heart might speak.
Longing and lone...she has become great at this art.
Every person around her overlooks her screams...
No one seems to notice her languished state:
Covert feelings too cowardly to escape the confines of her mouth.
Emotions are complex, aren't they?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Silence is a language of it's own. So much can be said within the confines of it's borders. Could silence be the loudest form of communication?

But in silence, we may hide and even find solace. We may also find truth.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have you ever considered taking a vow of silence?
    Silence can say a lot! “Covert feelings too cowardly to escape the confines of her mouth” rolls so nicely as a line, and the idea of speaking how you feel is a scary one sometimes!
    I love the different points of view in the cover art, so cleverly done. Mime that conveys emotions. great for the challenge.
    I don't know if I could take a vow of silence! It would be hard. Easier on the people around me though. And this was an excellent acrostic!
    Oh yes, emotions are complex and you managed to capture that complexity so well in this acrostic. You did a great job, Shirley, in mastering the form of the acrostic.
    Such a great poem, Shirley! Silence is absolutely important for humans: a comfortable silence (when people don’t feel the need to talk in each other’s presence) is a measure of deep intimate relationships.
    This really is a wonderful and original take on the challenge, Shirley. And you are right, silence does communicate. Especially loved your final line and your afterword!
    This is why I love and hate silence so much. It has its own power. From a totally different perspective there, but it just made me think that. I do not think I could handle a vow of silence, tbh. What I do love is this takee on the challenge, Shirley! Really well done!
  • Excellent acrostic… so sad… “ Every person around her overlooks her screams...”🥺
