The Price of Rushing Time

Impatience steals life's moments

By Rohitha LankaPublished 8 months ago 1 min read

A young man was impatient.

He wanted everything to happen immediately.

He could not wait for anything for long.

Once, he was waiting for his lover.

He had an appointment under a tree.

The appointment time had not yet arrived.

However, he arrived early.

He was restless and anxious.

He wanted the appointment time to come quickly.

A nearby deity saw this.

He handed the young man a magic wand.

He explained that it could press a button to speed up time.

He did not believe it with all his heart, but wanted to try.

He pressed the button to speed up time once.

Suddenly,

His lover appeared before him.

With his impatient nature,

He pressed the button again.

It moved the date for the couple to

Get married and become husband and wife.

That was not all. He pressed it again.

He saw that children and grandchildren

Grew up in their careers.

In a few hours,

However, when the young man looked at himself,

He saw that he was an old man with wrinkled skin, hands and feet.

He was plagued by illness.

The deity appeared again.

He asked the man,

''Is time turning as fast as you wish?''

The young man replied,

''How can I turn back time?

In a short while, I will die.''

The god asked for the staff back,

And everything

Returned to the present.

The young man returned to his original state,

Standing under the tree, waiting for his lover who had not yet arrived,

With a different expression.

Isn't that right? Waiting may be torturous,

But our lives cannot avoid it.

While many things we are waiting for have not yet arrived,

We live our lives, enjoying the present.

When that happens, one day, the things we are waiting for

May come sooner than we thought.
