The Pressure of Christmas 2024
This years a hard one, for lots of families with no money

The Pressure of Christmas 2024
How do you buy presents for people you adore,
When no money is knocking at your door?
The jingling bells and festive cheer,
Feel heavy when the cupboards are bare this year.
The glittering lights, the bustling crowd,
Highlight the silence, the absence loud.
You wrack your brain, you search your soul,
For ways to gift, when your purse has a hole.
But Christmas isn’t wrapped in a bow,
It’s not the cost of what we bestow.
It’s the warmth of love, the time we share,
The simple acts that show we care.
A handwritten note, a hug so tight,
Can outshine the most expensive delight.
For the greatest gifts, unseen, untold,
Are kindness, compassion, and hearts of gold.
So let go of the weight, the looming despair,
And find the joy in moments to share.
Christmas is love, not gifts from a store—
It’s a feeling of hope that knocks at your door.

Good job. I made various crafts one year or so when I did not have much money to buy gifts.
I like the sort of gloominess of this poem, and how it seeks to present us with the reality of some. I like the very realistic points you made, from the empty cupboards, the holes in our purse, to the time we can spend with our loved ones instead. Very sobering but stilll wrapped in the Christmas spirit and cheer. Wonderfully done Marie 👌🏽👏🏽♥️
