The Power of Now

A Memoir in Time

A swirling sea of bioluminescence glistens above me against the stark white ceiling.

Millions of particles dance amongst one another, groups of energy collide.

Effortless ebbs and flows of light refraction as if a revolving door controlled the swirls and twists and churns of the particle’s essence.

Sea foam blue as the Maltese waves wane into the distance, slipping away from jagged rocks providing sustenance to the life it bares.

New Zealand ferns on the road to Piha.

The warmth of the red walls in my mother’s office, juxtaposed to her collection of glimmering costume jewelry delicately placed in their glass case.

The farewell of a periwinkle sunset as it rests its eyes behind Mt. Tamalpais.

I take comfort under the umbrella of bioluminescence, the memories ignited and appreciation in the moment of making more.

Minute by minute, second by second, I smile.

I wonder to myself how the particles came to be together, how miscible and fleeting and soulful.

Hypnotized by the feeling of memories and the new to embrace, a gentle hum of the subway’s friction against its rusted tracks moves past.

A subtle reminder of the outside world’s wandering chaos and the power of now.
