The Post-Millennial Masquerade
A poem about masks.
The loudest voices determine the dress code
At the Post-Millennial Masquerade
Where the theme is Groupthink
And Inquisition is the game of the hour.
.
Do you bear the dogma in your heart as the self-appointed micropopes and their clergy claim to?
Or is there a heretic in your chest?
The polygraph purity tests will stretch you out
Under arrays of unsleeping eyes.
.
“You have the right to agree,” may be the last Freedom left.
At least there are factions,
Though we ought to call them what they are:
Denominations.
.
“To thine own self be true,”
Is to walk the Solitaire's path
At The Post-Milennial Masquerade
And few have the temerity for the role.
.
It is easier, if not better,
To bejewel one’s mask until it is just like the others.
Reflecting each-other like schools of fish,
There is safety in the individual sameness of the paper-leviathan.
.
Truths that reveal the Emperor’s nakedness
Are best left unsaid
At The Post-Millennial Masquerade
Where the loudest voices determine the dress code.
