There's a part of me that still remembers who I once was--

the timid but somehow fierce woman you’ve forgotten.

She was terrified too,

but she wasn’t afraid of you.

Her nights were sleepless as well,

but it wasn’t because she was listening to you yell.

_

Sometimes, I can remember the way I used to see myself--

when the lights are low enough, and I can’t see my scars.

It’s been a long walk with you on this winding road,

and I seem to always be the one carrying the load.

Your lack of consideration is nothing new,

and I wouldn’t dare inconvenience you.

_

People ask me why I stay...

Truthfully, it's a question that gets harder to answer every day.

I try so hard to fulfill my vow...

But the curtain's begun to draw, so I’ll take my bow.

Missed your face on here :) Wish this wasn't so heavy, but that fierceness is still there in you. I hope you give yourself grace and love.
