the last flame challenge

The last of my fire flickers and dies,

A life fading in ashes before my dark eyes.

It is here that the phoenix is destined to rise,

A new heart and new hope that will take to the skies.

I am the phoenix, at the end of my days,

And I am the phoenix who will find a new way,

But who I am now must burn here, before,

I must sacrifice comfort if I am to be more.

The destruction of safety, an offering of fears,

I count every tear shed over every long year.

An end and beginning, I must lose to be found,

And hope a spark of me will again rise renewed from the ground.
