The Patient Heart

Tic, Tic, Tic.

By Caleb EdmondsPublished 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 1 min read

I watch the minutes tic by, as the time fades from hours to days. You hold the same position on the clock at the time I watched you walk away. Tic, tic, tic, that God forsaking tic! I caught that look in those beautiful blue eyes. When I saw that my place in your heart was still there as it always had been, I chose to hope.

Once again, I pace the day away into nothingness. Waiting patiently for the other half of my heart to make her way back, back to the clock. Tic, tic, tic, oh how the sound rattles the mind. Makes me hate the leaving, the goodbyes. Reminds me of how half of my heart faded into the abyss, leaving me with that tortuous tic!!!

If this is my eternity, my forever. I’ll spend as many lifetimes as needed with this god forsaken tic, tic, tic. Only if when the clock stops, the other half of my heart finds her way back. Back to so much more. A lifetime of passion, love, and laughter.

As the tic begins to fade in this lifetime, we receive death within one another’s embrace sitting patiently awaiting. The tic starts to louden, and the sound grows. Honestly, I would wait a million life times just for this. God, oh how I love all those little tic, tic, tics.
