The Path of Life

When the trail changes

By Cheryl KellerPublished 4 months ago 1 min read

Feeling the soft soil under my feet,

Encountering special creatures, I just happened to meet.

A squire? A mouse and maybe a racoon?

All I knew, was that we were under the moon.

Continuing on, the path suddenly disappeared,

It was gone and oh, how it felt so weird.

I turned around to go back to my small car,

But the trail was gone, and the surroundings a blur.

The creatures were gone, it was just me, now suspended in space,

All I could feel, were tears upon my face.

Realizing at the very moment that this was my life,

Finding happiness and joy, only to be followed by strife.

Journeys taken with excitement, promise and hope,

Only to be met with an inability to cope.

How to move forward when life is full of disappointments and despair?

Why even try, why even care.

It all came clear when the trail suddenly abruptly ended,

Life can be hard, and not what was intended.

The small creatures saying hello was imbedded in my heart,

Acknowledgement is the only way forward. Not the end, just the start.

A different route taken is often met with resistance,

Yet this is the key, to a real existence.
