The Pains of Love

Love pains

The Pains of Love

Love comes breezy and impermanent —

Twirling so gently through the trees.

It raises the spirit, sparks the heart,

And rips its soft stitches wide open.”

A hand on one’s hand, a look, a moment’s kiss,

A promise swaddled in precarious joy.

But time will wind what once was light,

And drown it deep in night that knows no end.

The echo persists, a hard and cold

A half-told, half-trimmed story.

The hands that once held now give away,

Only leaving ghosts where warmth once lay.

Autumn rain will fall on the house.

Wandering the corridors of agony.

Memories make their merciless mark,

An love wholesome as if, now glaringly tattered.

But we still crave, despite the scars,

Running behind dreams like stars falling down.

For love it can hurt, but love we burn

And to its fire, we return.
