The other side

No one knows

If a life was long or short;

if we say it was the former

that's our human way to cope.

-*-

No one knows

how much time we have to spend;

if we say "not plenty enough"

that stays true until the end.

-*-

But we all know

those we love we'll miss the most;

if one says: "that is not true"

Life will find a real riposte.

-*-

We make pledges

and we stay true to our word;

we make plans but to our dismay,

the unexpected tends to occur.

-*-

You were loved,

we rejoice long and sweet;

did my best to give you plenty,

and you made my life complete.

-*-

No more worries,

no more constant tenderness,

Now you are free,

On the other side of sea.
