The only thing that matters
A poem on the intricacy of color.
LOOK at me!
What do you FEEL?
Do you FEEL the blue eyes that stare into me as I walk past them, avoiding eye
Connecting on more than one surface.
Do you SEE the smooth pecan colored skin on me,
It tells my story before I can even say a word.
Do you HEAR that beat? That thump-dump sound?
The sound of my pink fleshy heart beating,
As I walk past you in this humdrum world, gray and sullen.
You see, you and me? We are the same.
The color on me, doesn’t compare to the color that’s inside me and
You, you know.
Can you TASTE it?
The warm, saltiness of the crimson colored plasma
That gushes from my lip as I bite it when I walk past you to keep the nerves in tact. As it flows
Between you and I
We share something deeper than the surface level of the color of our skin.
We can both bask in the illumination of the brightest sun & stare into the deepest blue sky
Gaze at the leaves
Green on the tree
We share all of these things in common
So why does the color of our skin
Seem to be
The only
Thing
That matters?
