summer.
look what we did this summer-
a venture into the unknown territory of growing up (supposedly)-
& the hours of fun playing games-
& the hours of fun meeting friends-
& the hours of fun just
talking
talking
writing
reading
reading
laughing (a little)-
summer.
look not at what wasn’t.
look at what was:
what was:
two years since the break of a friendship,
two years of growth,
two years of epic tales,
two years of happiness,
two years of storytelling.
summer-
this year you didn’t take anything from me.
this year i won the battle.
this year, summer,
i wish like we all do-
i wish
for the never-end of summer.
the never end of that feeling-
that sweat-sticky
ice cream cone
watermelon
sandy shoes feeling;
that bone-chilling
thunderous rumble
pouring rain
soaked feeling;
that safety
watching the raindrops
looking for lightning
roadtrip feeling;
that never-end of summer feeling.
i wish for the most.
***
well…
summer’s over.

I wish summers meant what they used to when I was young. Then I grew up. Thank you for bringing back so many memories!
Ah those halcyon days of hazy blue skies...and thunder!
Makes me miss the never ending summers I would have as a kid, they used to feel like years and now they go by in seconds. Nice poem!
