The Most Eloquent Poem

How do I love thee?

If I could have penned the most eloquent poem

I'd pour out the well of my soul with each line

As often my trend my thoughts do not roam

And words do not swell but stay locked in my mind

Romantic in spell, but too boring to shine

If I could have sung the most beautiful song

And render the word more becoming than lute

I'd loosen my tongue, but it all comes out wrong

My yodel's absurd, the air I'd pollute

I wish to be heard but remain safely mute

If I could use oils in a rainbow of hues

I'd paint you a scene that would quicken the heart

But a lifetime of toils only frustrate the muse

My hand is not keen and my scribbles aren't art

If I could be seen as a whole, not a part

If I could bestow the most memorable gift

This I could prove that I mean what I say

I'd promise to show I would strengthen, uplift,

And help you above all of life's disarray

I'd give you my love that grows stronger each day
