The Moon and The Child

An ancient tale

By Christian SanchezPublished about 12 hours ago 2 min read

Moon you must be tired of hearing her name

"Child I hear it every night you’ve cried beneath my light"

I miss you everyday baby

"Child you speak her name night after night as if she will respond back"

Because there’s some part of me that hopes she will, that she’ll hum our favorite song, that she’ll remember me the way I remember her

"Child you sing to her as if she still walks beneath my light, you whisper to shadows that no longer answer"

But I cant lose hope moon, I know ill hear her soft, sweet voice swaying in the air calling back for me

"She’s been gone for months child, she’s off to someplace new now"

But she would never leave just like that, she would say something write a letter anything, she wouldn't worry me

"Child and maybe that's exactly what she’s doing saving you from a fact you can't bear, some departures leave no footprints behind and secrets to never be told, not ever leaving comes with a letter"

Moon I just hope she’s okay she was a light as bright as yours on a dark night, she made my life run moon

"Child sometimes even the brightest lights can be dimmed, some stars fall quietly without warning, im sure whatever the reason she had to leave it was in your best intention""

But wouldn’t she know I want her to come back I don't want to live a life without my light in the sky, a life without my own person moon to talk to

"Child you speak of her as if she still rises with the dawn, you search the sky for her but she no longer stands in a place your eyes can see"

Moon today would have been her birthday she would have turned 43 today, its been 11 years since she went missing is she still out there?

"Child you count the years as if time can return her to you, you ask if she’s still out there yet the places you search are meant for the living and she has wandered somewhere your footsteps cannot reach"""

Moon has she talked to you recently?

"Child the last time she talked to me was eleven years ago on her birthday, the night her body grew tired of this world. Her final words were simple: I love him in this life and beyond."

Moon why didnt you tell me! You made me stay delusional for years, all I wanted was to have her back for one more day. How did it happen? Tell me now!

"She had cancer with one year left to live. Her heart failed that moment at home as she couldn't bear the thought of telling you. She told me one day when you're ready to tell you, she’s buried at your favorite park and she's waiting to see you child."

Moon all these years, I've waited for her, calling her name in the wind, reliving moments in my head, not knowing she laid beneath the trees we once loved, I thought she was lost when all along she was just trying to spare me from a different kind of goodbye

"Child love does not end just because a life does, she rests where your memories still reach her, in the quiet place you once called home. Go when your ready my child, she has never stopped waiting for you."
