The Moments Before Dawn
Reveries and stolen gasps of sleep abound.

the blur of blue is at its deepest
right when we curl into lost dreams
that we grasp at fine edges, fraying,
even though sleep is becoming scarce.
*
the purple hue begins to lighten,
leaving questions in its wake,
as we laze into that between place
where we say goodbye to phantom faces.
*
the touches of yellow and pink sway
as if they're partners in a fluid dance,
and we are the partakers few to see
just how the final steps commence.
*
the sun rears its head like a lion proud,
and the moon hides its face behind a fog
till we see it again in night's passing
right before we begin the journey anew.
*
take this vision from me now, if you must,
until we meet again in dreams run rampant.
