on seeing myself in his silence

The Mirror Between Us

I see her reflection

in the glass of your eyes,

and I cannot help but measure myself

against her shadow.

What has she that I do not?

What song does her laughter carry

that mine could not sing?

I stand in front of a mirror

that lies,

whispering that I was not enough.
