The Media Cirlce

Round, and a round The Media is talkin' Us boys are walkin'

By Gladys W. MuturiPublished 2 years ago 2 min read

This is a poetic monologue from my one-act play BOYS LIKE US. This poetic monologue centers on the Exonerated Five and Scottsboro Boys being tarnished by the media.

Round and around in a circle, we are

We Are the nines

We are the fives

You have entered the circle

The Media Circle

All of our lives are now at stake

How long is this going to take?

Who wins the race?

This whole thing is outta place

We are in one big circle

The Media Circle

Wandering around in this huge cycle

us, fourteen boys, we’re walkin’

The Media just talkin’

Have a paper!

“Reputations were won and lost”

Organizations became larger and better known.

Newspapers sold better”

When will things get better?

Well here we are!

All form in a big round circle

Walking around in our similar circumstance

Hopefully this world gives us a chance

Make this our final dance

All of this is getting out of hand

They say we are guilty looking us at like we are filthy.

Is this how they are going to treat me?

Will they ever believe me?

I am a young black boy searching the answer

I am innocent

Now here we are in-

The Media Circle

us, fourteen boys, we’re walkin’

The Media just talkin’

There’s a tsunami of media that was destined to the murder of us.

And we somehow survived.

Somehow, we died.

Have a paper!

Have a paper!

Have a paper!

No thanks I’ll might read later.

See you later!

Did you watch the news?

You see how cruel They made us look like fools.

Newspapers like tools

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!!!

NEGROS INDICTED ON CHARGES FOR RAPE.

Boy, how do you think it make us feel?

Enraged!

Saving grace!

Nothing is sweet as it sounds.

Look at us! They treat us like we’re hounds.

We wanna work hard for the rounds.

Lead us to the promise land

Open the Gates!

“Put them boys in a cage”

NIGHTMARE IN CENTRAL PARK

Did you read this?

The media!

On a Frenzy!

All this stuff is crazy.

Pressing us on the daily.

Donald Trump had requested an ad on the newspaper.

“Bring back Death Penalty”

“Bring back Our Police”

Bring back our police?

Might as well Put us on a leash like we’re animals.

Or better yet slaves and hang us on a noose.

We’re all gonna die! We’re all gonna die!

Ring around the circle we are the nines.

We are the fives.

Filled with build with beneath the lies

Ashes to Ashes

Dust to Dust

Round around the circle we are the 9 to 5 boys

Look how they treat us like we are toys

And yet they avoid the truth in void

Now here we are in a circle we are

Ring around in the circle we are

Ashes ashes

We all go down.

COMING SOON BOYS LIKE US!!!!!

A one-act poetic play about Central Park Five Boys and Scottsboro Nine Boys meeting in a dream.

I am working on my independent production company GWM Entertainment (GWM Ent.). So far, I have written and completed plays that I have tried to submit every play in every submission but nothing. I have tried to produce my plays unfortunately I didn't have enough funds to produce my projects not even loans and grants to help me. So donate whatever you can.
