The Mask We Wear
A Poem

Staring in the mirror,
Seeing my reflection,
I grimace at what is there.
***
Pale skin,
Dark circles,
Red eyes.
***
Holding the mask,
My hands shake.
***
My stomach cramps,
Knowing I have to put it on,
Again and again and again.
***
But I slip it on.
Nobody can see what lies beneath the surface.
