The Mask
is only an illusion
Play your cards right
And keep on your poker face.
Life is a game
So you better play to your strengths.
Only expose your weakness
When the time is right.
When you're all alone
In the middle of the night.
When there's nothing to lose
And everything to gain.
Gearing up to make sure you fit into the next frame.
Please take your time to learn another method
To play another character,
it'll take time to perfect another persona
And calculate the perfect move
To benefit only you.
Let's just hope and pray nobody sees through you.
Just be patient and play the long game.
Put on one facade after another.
Gain people's trust and get people to like you
So you can be popular.
Just remember to hide your true intentions
And develop the ideal mask for every new encounter.
But heed my warning for with every new mask
You lose a part of yourself
Straying further away from the real you
So don't be surprised when you look in the mirror
And have to ask "Who are you?"

What if you've worn the mask for so long that that is who you are? The shifting of the masks and the blur that creates is actually the essence of you? What if the mask is a shield? Thought-provoking stuff.
